2v2 and 5v5 Arenas seem like simple annihilation modes – personally, those are my favorite types. Nevertheless, I can give you a glimpse of what awaits you. It sounds all too familiar to PvP matches in far too many MMOs. My level is probably too low and everyone fighting is maxed out. I stood in line and waited patiently for about an hour to no avail. Unfortunately, again, I couldn’t participate in any of the arenas, but that’s not for lack of trying. We have four: 2v2, 5v5 and two different 3v3 maps. Having seen more than enough combat in this game, I was in the perfect position to talk about the PvP intro, so I wanted to check out the modes spear of war online gives us. It looks like some additional skills unlock at higher levels, and there is some sort of upgrade available. As you level up, you can assign a skill point to one of the skills, making it somewhat stronger. Players have five default skills, each consuming a small amount of MP and having a short cooldown. I can sum up combat as an auto attack with the occasional key press. Unfortunately, there just aren’t many redeeming qualities here. Or at least it should have been more interesting. I was focused enough on leveling enough to join arenas (it’s a PvP column, after all!) that I didn’t delve into the economics, though.Īfter finishing a few, I was able to move on to something a little more interesting: combat. The game also offers crafting and gathering abilities to partner with. The first handful wasn’t anything special at all, just your typical fetch quests. Moving on, I went through some quest dialogues. I’ve tried to get into these games, even the acclaimed best of the best, and I just can’t.Īnyway, I didn’t want to write completely spear of war online just for that. I know a lot of gamers like it, but like I said, NES was my first gaming experience, and on NES most games obviously weren’t point and click. That was probably the first thing that ruined the experience for me. Then the game started, and I realized I was going to be stuck with pure point-and-click movement only. The options were pretty sparse, but I can live with that assuming there’s a decent amount of cosmetic gear in the game. Visually speaking, I really liked the look of this one. Once I briefly read through the courses and made a selection, I was given a few options to customize my character. Sure, I eventually realized I could click through and get a little more detailed description of each, but it still seemed sudden. As soon as you click to create a new character and get started, you have the option to choose a faction and one of five different classes offered by each.
There are no fancy cutscenes or splash screens to slowly introduce you to the game, its world, or any of its inhabitants. The dialog boxes are all so big that you have to click on everything (rather than hover over them) to get more information or details about them.

I couldn’t put my finger on it initially, but I think I figured out what’s going on here: this is a PC port of the mobile game. First of all, the interface was really shocking. Let’s start at the beginning: launch the game and create your character. Still, the game offers a few notable features, and it technically works, which is, you know, something. It’s just a very difficult experience and not at all what I expected. More recently, my quest has led me to spear of war online, and I can’t even bring myself to sugarcoat it: things have gone wrong. In fact, I’m constantly looking for a great retro MMO.

Here in Fight or Kite I’ve written about many of these games, from offline titles like Monster Sanctuary and Moonlight to MMOs like Browse online. The NES was my childhood, like so many of us, so I really can’t get enough of it. I love and love retro and retro-inspired games – 8-bit era games are my bread and butter.
